What is NIR?

Near Infrared Reflectance (NIR) spectroscopy is an analytical technique which relates the light absorbed by a sample to its chemical and physical composition.

When irradiated with energy, chemical bonds in a molecule vibrate at a frequency characteristic of that bond. These vibrations can be accurately related to nutritional, chemical and physical properties.

A sample of the material is placed on to the reading pane of an NIR spectrometer and the machine does the rest!

There are no hazardous chemicals used and the technique is non-destructive to the sample. Once the NIR spectrometer is calibrated with AUNIR calibrations, anyone can operate the machine and the results are available instantly.
