Microsoft Office updates confirmed as cause of problems with Specman

On Thursday 16th August 2012 we reported that it was suspected that recent Microsoft updates were causing Specman to function incorrectly (click here to read the previous article).  It has now been confirmed that updates to Microsoft Office (KB2687323, KB2687441 or KB2597986 – depending on version installed) are the cause of this error.

These updates cannot be removed individually but using the Windows ‘System Restore’ function to roll back the system until prior to the updates will fix the problem.  If system restore is not available then removing and re-installing Microsoft office will also correct the problem (steps should be taken to ensure the update is not re-applied in this case).

Systems affected are those that have the following versions of Microsoft Office installed:

  • Office 2003 (Service Pack 3)
  • Office 2007 (Service Pack 2)
  • Office 2007 (Service Pack 3)
  • Office 2010 (Service Pack 1 – 32 bit editions)

Specman will be affected even if the standard office suite is installed and outlook runtime is being used.  Systems with only Access runtime installed remain unaffected.
